What's Your Best Advice for Avoiding those Extra Holiday Pounds?
- Don't tell yourself, "It's okay, it's the holidays." That opens the door to 6 weeks of splurging.
- Remember, EAT before you meet.
Have this small meal before you go to any parties: a hardboiled Egg, Apple, and a Thirst quencher (water, seltzer, diet soda, tea).
- As obvious as it sounds, don't stand near the food at parties. Make the effort, and you'll find you eat less.
- For the duration of the holidays, wear your snuggest clothes that don't allow much room for expansion. Wearing sweats is out until January.
- Give it away! After company leaves, give away leftover food to neighbors, doormen, or delivery people, or take it to work the next day.
- Walk around the mall three times before you start shopping.
- Make exercise a nonnegotiable priority.
- Dance to music with your family in your home. One dietitian reported that when she asks her patients to do this, initially they just smile, but once they've done it, they say it is one of the easiest ways to involve the whole family in exercise.
- Try Sugar free (ff, cal free) Hot Cocoa its delicious!
- Constantly chew sugar free gum to prevent sugar cravings.
Please leave any tips that could help other dieters out there! Thanks!

It is a hassle to explain to people I am dieting. Now I just politely say "no, thank you" when I am offered food at gatherings and events.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to deter conversations that I do not want to get into. Everyone seems to have their own opinion of dieting around the holidays.
Very true, its better to avoid the conversation all around. It will help you stay focused and motivated! (and keep your family from tempting you).
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused about the 2 pounds of gain when on the 1000 calories. When are you supposed to have a steak day? Is it 2 pounds from the day before or 2 pounds from the beginning of the 1000 calories?
ReplyDeleteOn the grace period as soon as you go up 2 lbs from the day you take your last shot is when you follow the steak and apple day. You will drink fluids all day and have a large steak and a raw tomato or apple for dinner. It should help correct the plateau. You may do this as often as needed.
